Getting Started in Volume Photography and Beyond. 

Have you ever wondered what the volume photography market is all about? Is it something you are suited for? Is it something that you can incorporate into your studio work? Does it require a large investment or equipment that you don’t have? Is it worth the trouble?

Di Murphy, CPP, has the answers to these questions and more. With over 30 years of experience in the youth sport market, Di’s program will start at the beginning and take you through her entire process from marketing to booking to picture day and beyond. With a B. S. In Cinema and Photography, years of experience teaching high school, and Certification through the Professional Photographers of America, Di knows her stuff. She will share lighting and camera options, vendor resources, posing techniques, methods for dealing and communicating with parents and leagues and pricing strategies. She will demonstrate some of her renowned speed posing and share tips for turning that so-so pose into a great one. She will discuss pre-pay versus online galleries, traditional teams versus composited teams, indoors versus outdoors. Interested in creating banners? That will be covered, too.

Di has been a photographer since the age of 8, when her grandmother gave her her first camera. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Cinema and Photography and went on to found Tintype Studio Inc. which specializes in youth sport photography. At its peak, Tintype photographed close to 100,000 children annually and now, after recessions and Covid, is a much smaller enterprise but still manages to photograph 20,000 children annually. She also founded, along with her wife, Anne Susan Portrait Design which focuses on headshots, families,  and pet portraiture. Every Christmas season Anne Susan hosts The Santa Experience in Evanston where children can spend private time with Santa, reading stories, decorating ornaments and much more.

Along the way, Di has earned the credential of Certified Professional Photographer through the Professional Photographers of America and has become a national speaker at professional photography conferences, teaching the pros how to better organize their businesses and pose their young clients. Di’s company was the first volume photography business in the Chicago area to go completely digital in 2000. Since that time she has educated herself to become an expert in digital photography and by extension smartphone photography.

In her spare time, Di loves to sing, travel, go to movies, spend time with her family and play with her dog, Rudy.
