    A World Without Color

In a World without Color, our environment is redefined.  All things, including shape, contrast, and emotion take on a whole new meaning.  How do we experience that world of black and white?  Join master photographer, Roben Bellomo, as he discusses his experience and approach to the elements that contribute to impactful, black and white imagery.  From understanding your surroundings and planning to shooting and processing, you will walk away with a different perspective on black and white image making.  It’s time to reimagine in a world without color.

    Roben's Bio:

    Early Influences & Education
Raised in a family steeped in the arts, Roben Bellomo's creative roots run deep. From frequent visits to the Detroit Institute of Arts to growing up with a musical mother and a father who was both a professional artist and entrepreneur, Roben was immersed in artistic expression from a young age. He first picked up a camera in high school and quickly discovered his passion—a perfect blend of creativity and technical precision that allowed him to explore and preserve fleeting moments.

Though he turned down a photography scholarship to pursue a degree in education, Roben spent a decade as a full-time educator, where he inspired students to learn wholeheartedly and chase their dreams. That same spirit eventually led him to take his own advice—transitioning his lifelong love for photography from hobby to profession.

    Creative Journey & Professional Life
Since founding BELLOMO STUDIOS in 2013, Roben has built a reputation for timeless, emotionally resonant portraiture rooted in service, storytelling, and fine-art excellence. In 2020, he co-founded Behn Gallery, a creative space designed to foster public engagement with the arts and promote meaningful personal growth through visual storytelling.

Together with fellow photographer and artist Jim Hamel, Roben also leads guided photography workshops and experiential travel programs, both in the U.S. and internationally. These small-group journeys combine immersive cultural experiences with hands-on learning and artistic exploration, creating space for photographers of all levels to grow in both vision and craft.

In recent years, Roben has deepened his focus on developing his businesses with intentionality—prioritizing personal relationships, artistic integrity, and community impact. Whether creating heirloom portraits, mentoring photographers, or curating gallery events, Roben’s work centers on connecting people to what matters most: self, story, and one another.

    Mission
Roben believes photography is more than documentation—it’s a vessel for honoring connection, emotion, and time. Every image is crafted to be Meaningful, Memorable, and Masterful, aligning with his larger purpose: to use art as a catalyst for reflection, healing, and joy in everyday life.

    Service & Community Engagement
An active leader in the photographic community, Roben served as President of both the Indianapolis Professional Photographers Guild (IPPG) and the Daguerre Club of Indiana. His commitment to service extends beyond the industry, supporting organizations like Flashes of Hope, Indy Honor Flight, GiGi’s Playhouse, and Indiana Ballet Conservatory through donated time and talent. Personally and professionally, Roben is dedicated to giving back—to his craft, his clients, and his community.

    Personal Life
After living in San Diego for six years, Roben and his wife Adrienne returned to the Midwest in 2013 and now live in Carmel, Indiana with their two children. Being close to extended family is a daily blessing. When not behind the camera or running the gallery, Roben enjoys strumming his guitar, coaching youth soccer, and enjoying long conversations over a good coffee—or whiskey or whisky.

    Looking Ahead
In the coming years, Roben is committed to expanding his artistic practice, exploring new mediums, and using his work to inspire others and improve lives. Through portraiture, gallery work, and travel-based photography experiences, he hopes to cultivate a legacy of meaningful art, deep connection, and lifelong learning.

    Image Competition:

Entering images in photographic competition can seem like a daunting task for many people but it’s a journey that, if undertaken, can lead to improved skills, more earning capacity, and better recognition through branding and marketing.

Image competition is not all about winning trophies. It’s about getting better at the craft.

During this program, Kristy Steeves, who is an approved PPA juror, will talk about what makes an image merit-worthy. She will show you how to prepare your images for competition – from coming up with impactful titles to creating presentations – along with upping your game as a visual storyteller. Kristy will also share her favorite editing techniques to help us refine our images.

Don’t let the fear of failure hold you back. It is the catalyst for learning, growing, and becoming successful photographers! We all have to start somewhere and this is a great place to begin, or, for those who’ve already embarked on this journey, it’s a way to take your work to the next level. Shooting with Purpose

Dan will be giving an updated version of his most recent Imaging USA platform, Shoot With Purpose. It will cover philosophy, creativity, Dan’s digital business model (created after 10 years of IPS), and a ton of image breakdowns with lighting diagrams and BTS. The throughline is defining your unique purpose and using that as a guidepost in all of your decision making and image creation. He hopes to leave you pumped up and motivated to keep pressing forward in your photographic journey! Q&A will be open to anything attendees want to ask Dan about, so bring your questions and share your struggles. The community building this night will be awesome.

    Dan's Bio:

McClanahan Studio is the creative collaboration of husband/wife duo Dan and Alex McClanahan. Their studio is headquartered in historic downtown Ames, Iowa – the town where Dan grew up and where he and Alex met as students at Iowa State University. The couple founded McClanahan Studio in March of 2009 and quickly established themselves as a fresh and innovative alternative to traditional photography. Their work quickly made waves in the photo industry with multiple Grand Imaging Awards, WPPI 1st place awards, and magazine features.

Dan's background as a journalist is the driving force behind McClanahan Studio's storytelling imagery. He is the studio's lead photographer and technical perfectionist. Outside of the office he is a drummer, snowboarder, Harry Potter geek, spicy–food–connoisseur and collector of bright shoes. Dan has dressed up as a Ninja Turtle for halloween six different times since the age of 5 and his psyche is heavily influenced by Dr. Suess. BA in Journalism, Iowa State. Master of Photography, Master Craftsman and Master Artist, Professional Photographers of America. Also a member of the Society of XXV, an international group made up of some of the finest photographers in the world.
